Jeremies & Jessica: Engagement Photos – Salton Sea

Early Saturday morning Suzy and I went to pick up our good friends Jeremies, and Jessica. Ever since I first heard about the Salton Sea I have been fascinated. It’s a little over three hours away from us, but I had been dying to go exploring. So when Jeremies and and Jessica got engaged I convinced them it would be a fun place to do some engagement photos. So on Saturday we made a day trip out of it.

Once we actually arrived I think I realized it was one of the strangest places I had ever been. It felt like we walked right out of reality and into a Frank Peretti murder mystery. A once thriving resort town now abandoned and sparsely populated by a few stragglers who enjoy representing the far edge of society.

After getting my truck stuck in the mud for awhile, we finally pulled up over a ridge to Bombay Beach. I figured we found the right spot because there were 4 other photo shoots already in progress. A mens underwear ad had a lot of lights and crew with a model set up in one spot. A big group from FIDM also had a bunch of models and a big crew. A group of college kids with a bunch of costumes were doing a shoot, and then there were a number of amateurs wandering around.

We still had mud all over us from the puddle. But we managed to get some fun shots. I think this will probably be part one of their engagement session, and part two will involve a totally different feel in a totally different location. But now that I’ve been I really want to plan a day to go back to the Salton Sea just to photograph all the remains of the ghost towns.
