Contrast Concepts
I finally got a chance to go through some of the photos from my Contrast shoot last month! I am so happy with the results. Sometimes you go into a shoot with a lot of muddy, ethereal, mental images of what you want, and kind of hope you will get something out of it. When I take photos, I think the only way I can describe how it works is an emotion. I see the subject, I see the people, and it’s like these somewhat indistinguishable flashing colors and ideas start floating around in my head. Then you add the light, the color, all the equipment, the talent, the posing, along with all the technical artistic choices you make for each shot, and somehow an image results. It might not be exactly what was in your head, but it might just be better. That’s what makes shooting so much fun. I feel like I take my emotions going into the shoots, and the emotion of what I am shooting and tie it all together into an image which hopefully means something to someone. =).
Below are a few of my favorites from the shoot. They’re different than what you might normally see, but hopefully they will inspire even further creativity as my friends and clients plan out the art which will represent their wedding day.
But all said I can’t really take more then a small amount of credit for the images. Most of the work was from all these friends who helped with this shoot. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for the help and how much fun I had. The day was one of the highlights of my summer! So I want to throw a HUGE thanks out to all of you!
Hair & Makeup: My good friend Josh Rivas did all the hair and make-up for the day. He was locked in that little room for like 8 hours. Amazing job! He has a salon in Santa Clarita on the corner of Lyons and Atwood. I recommend going!
Grip & Sets: John, thanks for all the help with moving things, grip, set, and just doing whatever needed to be done!
Video: My roommate, Jeremy did all the video work for the shoot which at some point we hope to edit into a little mini documentary!
Flowers: Early on I wrote out my shot list and the color schemes for everything I was doing and Lisa took the list and ran with it. She created these amazing bouquets which worked perfectly with every image, and added to it more than I could have hoped! Thanks soooo much Lisa! If you ever need flowers for your wedding send her an email.
Dresses: Barbara, a new friend, is a dress designer. She volunteered to bring down a few of her dresses for the shoot (the pink and yellow one). She can make pretty much any dress but I LOVED the more untraditional ones too much to not use them. Send her an email if you ever have wedding dress needs!
Models: Also, special thanks to Masae, Matt & Sarah, Rachel, Joey, and Barbie for taking time out of your busy schedule’s to come model for me! You all look fabulous!
Venue: And I think the biggest contribution was Maravilla Gardens. I can’t thank the Maravilla family enough for letting us use their lovely property. I really enjoy shooting weddings at the venue because it’s so happy, clean, gorgeous, well thought out… I could just keep on going with other beautiful words to describe this amazing location. If you’re looking for a garden wedding venue I would make sure to check their availability and scope out the location before you look too far.
My Love: And finally I need to thank my amazing Fiance Suzy for being there with my every step of the way from the hours of driving around collecting props, to the phone calls, all the way to everything on the day. I LOVE you sooo much!

Truly amazing. The first thing that I noticed is that they look more like actual pictures than 3 dimentional art works, I think because the backgrounds are so imaculate and gorgeous that they blend into the forground so well. Than everything looks perfectly proportional, not exagerated or fake. It all seems intentional, nothing looks odd or misplaced, it all looks apropriate even though there are some very different things put together.
